When you think of paradise what comes to mind? Do the endless beaches, exploding volcanos, tall mountains, or crazy cities call to you? Well, don’t need to look any longer. The Hawaii Islands have something to please everyone. The beaches are most known because of their clear blue water. But the land aspect is not mentioned enough. The land is very important to the local Hawaiians. To learn about Hawaii, we have to learn about their culture, land, and people.

Culture:

The Spirit of Aloha comes from the translation of being in the presence of the essences of life. The lessons taught most to the natives are in chants, arts, music, hula, and other cultural practices. We have to understand their language by learning the different aspects of each practice. Most stories taught are about the Ea Mai Hawaiiniakea or Pu’uloa’s keeper. Ea Mai Hawaiiniakea: https://blogs.ksbe.edu/kelucas/files/2018/08/Ea-Mai-Hawai%CA%BBinuia%CC%84kea.pdf This story talks about ancient chiefs who raised this land out of the sea. A line translated says, “Then arose Hawaiinuiakea. Arose from inside, from the inner darkness. Then appeared the island, the land. The row of islands of Nuumea. The group of islands on the borders of Tahiti” On the other hand, Pu’uloa’s keeper is talking about the guardians that protect these islands. The Ke ʻawa lau o Puʻuloa also known as Pearl Harbor got its special shape because it was the home of the original guardian sharks. They protect the native people from the harm of the outer world. Land:

Local Hawaiians care more about the land than anything else. The beauty of these islands is what keeps their world going. The islands are one of the most blessed places because of their coral reefs, blue beaches, and volcanoes. The land is what brings Hawaii the paradise feeling. Luckly many places have taken time to preserve these wonderful landscapes so all can enjoy. Even future people. To begin coral reefs are a vital part to the environment. It helps with the biodiversity and local marine life. Even though they are important, not everyone treats them as so. They are being damaged by environmental and human interactions. The coral reefs take up more than 1200 miles of the coast. Every visitor should do their part to protect and help the coral reefs. Next the volcanos on the islands are just as important. You can go and visit them but remember they are still active meaning they could erupt at any moment. The Hawai’i Volcano National Park have missions that can bring you safely close to the volcanoes.

The local Hawaiians, the Polynesian people, have their own language. Most of it can be interpreted by their dances and physical language. As you can suppose Hawaiians are one of the happiest people on earth. Not only do they celebrate, but they also throw huge parties. Just stepping foot in Hawaii will make you ten times happier.
